Inside Rebecca de Ravenel’s Bohemian Apartment

It’s not uncommon for our clients to give us the brief of creating an urban paradise capable of transporting one to a far away place the moment one enters the room. We call this Boho chic and we are always on the look out for exemplary spaces to inspire even the most discerning clients.

We struck gold when we stumbled across the playful and eclectic New York apartment of Rebecca de Ravenel, 31-year-old founder of Rebecca de Ravenel LLC which sells unique jewellery (and,  just recently, cylindrical handbags and a shirt collection).

“I had searched and searched to find the ideal apartment in New York, and when I finally found this one, I knew it was right. ”

In 2015 Rebecca fused her passion with design and unique jewellery from around the globe to create her coveted Les BonBons, the stunning handmade-in-India ball drop earrings made of spun silk and glass beads.

Post launch, the collection sold out in just three weeks and have since become ear candy for the fashionista, gracing the ears of women on beaches and cities all over the world including Selena Gomez, ABC producer Victoria Thompson and LA based Interior Designer Victoria Birch. You know the ones?

Rebecca has an admittedly superstitious manner when it comes to house hunting – there were in particular two big signs which tipped her over the edge and saw her signing on the dotted line. The first was the number 77, “I have always lived in a house where there was a ‘77’ in the address, and lucky enough, this apartment in the West Village included a number ‘77.’”

The second was a potted hibiscus sitting on the curb, which reminded her of living in the Bahamas and immediately made her feel right at home. “I was lucky to find a flat with a little garden. I lived in this apartment five years ago and then rented it out when I moved to the Bahamas. When I finally moved back in, a lot of my Bahamian things came back with me, and it ended up transforming the apartment.”

Bahamas-bred but Paris-educated, Rebecca formed her natural affinity for tropic aesthetics with an urban flair, which we can see with pieces such as the vintage couches from Palm Beach Regency Boutique and English chairs from 1stdibs.

Rebecca is constantly travelling for continued inspiration for her brand and in turn she is always bringing back pieces back to furnish her unique home such as the beautiful blue and white cushions which she had made from fabric she brought back from Brigitte Singh in Jaipur, India. We can’t wait to follow her journey to see where she ends up next!
