Approach to design
I believe Interior Design should reflect its' inhabitants and local environment; not the designer. I design first by addressing space, then functionality and ultimately by decoration. Decoration is not just purchasing colour coordinated homewares! It is selecting essentials and weaving colour, pattern and texture into each element from floor up. This achieves a rich and cosy ambience. It is also the careful editing of your belongings. Sentimental items can and should be part of your design. Re-positioning or re-framing can be just as effective as a new item. Being a fine artist, I have an astute sense of colour as it relates to personality. I am passionate about matching people to their homes. Your room is my ultimate blank canvas!
Giulianna has an Ass. Dip Arts (Interior Design and Decoration) obtained from leading design institute RMIT and is a member of the Design Institute of Australia (DIA). Giulianna’s work history began with a love of textiles, working for quality furnishing importers. It quickly extended onto the building scene where there was greater scope to use hard finishes as well. Career experience includes designing independently and in partnership with high profile Australian Interior Designers. Her personal portfolio includes designing displays for boutique builders, consulting clients on fixtures, finishes and colours for their dream homes. In 2003, Giulianna del Popolo established her own Interior Design and Fine Art studio practice; GDP Interior Design. Here, she combines her love for residential design with producing customised art. GDP Interior Design offers services to Melbourne areas and now also e-decorating via Milray Park. Any opportunity to design spaces, she will take it!
