Approach to design
For me, interior design encompasses psychology (listening, dispute resolution, communication), creativity, ingenuity, lateral thought and a sense of equanimity. I approach all projects with an appreciation of the significance for my clients and a bucketful of excitement.
I have a particular interest in construction and I think this brings a depth of understanding to my design process. I also have a passion for environmentally sustainable design, which includes methodology and product selection.
I like to think my strength is in interpreting a brief; consolidating information and presenting resolved design solutions that are uniquely tailored, practical, and beautiful. My highest priority is to delight my clients!
After completing a Diploma of Interior Design and Decoration at The Gordon, my design experience has been as principal designer of Kaleidoscope (2003-2006), Circle + Square (partnership 2006), and then establishing my current venture- Simpatico Interior Design. Based on the Surfcoast in Victoria, I've worked in both residential and commercial design for my entire design career and have won several awards including from the DIA, HIA (as part of a team), and Best of Houzz designer for the past 4 years in several categories. In addition to individual clients, I have worked closely with several builders over the years as their exclusive designer for properties along the Great Ocean Rd as well as in Geelong and Melbourne. Commercial projects include Salvation Army headquarters, Timezone, cafes, medical premises, retail outlets, restaurants, Bikram yoga studios, Splashdown Leisure Centres, & YWCA. I've had my work published several times in The Geelong Advertiser as a coastal design expert.
