Summer is the perfect time to make your home a place you absolutely love to spend time in and whether it’s throwing out some junk, buying a beautiful new piece of furniture or getting into a full home makeover, now is the time to do it!
Start by making sure everything has a place (like that amazing closet)! If it doesn’t have a place and you cant justify making space for it, then it either needs to go into storage or to the little trinket farm in the sky, aka the bin. Once you’ve decided what you want to keep, you’re going to need to work out some storage solutions – small skinny drawers are perfect for paperwork and smaller items. Unfortunately, if you basically live in a shoe box you might have to be a little more ruthless with the decluttering process, but if you’ve got the space, grab some boxes that you can easily label. E.g. ‘Old children’s toys’, ‘Gifts from family friends that I should probably keep’, ‘Uni memories’, ‘Gran’s crockery set i’ll eventually use one day’ etc.

#2 Now, don’t re-clutter!
Now that you’ve just put all the clutter away from last year, make sure you don’t get into the same pickle next year! You’ll see how much you love living in a decluttered space (just like these ones) very quickly! Everyone’s a little guilty of buying something that they don’t need, because lets face it – shopping’s an addiction. This year try and refrain from buying that ‘totally awesome’ shiny rock that is only $5 and is going to look so good next to the little ceramic fish you bought at the markets last weekend. Yep, keep trying to convince yourself. We all know they will just end up collecting dust on the shelf in the guest bedroom.

#3 Treat yourself!
You deserve it. Buy that sofa you really want to complete your living room, or spend the money on that fancy floor lamp that you’ve been dreaming of for a while. There’s always that one thing (or lots, let’s be real) that you want for your home but you just can’t justify spending the money on it, so in the new year pick one and treat yourself! The other things on the list you can treat yourself to for your birthday, Christmas, anniversary, dogs birthday, the winter solstice – don’t worry, you can find an excuse.

#4 Go green
Going green in 2019 means more than just improving the energy efficiency of your home! Yes, we mean the colour green. Not only are there a bunch of studies that show how being close to greenery and nature is extremely beneficial for your mood, this colour is also just really beautiful!
So get to your local gardening shop and pick out some indoor plants to liven up your space – and if you don’t feel confident about your plant parent abilities, you can find great fake ones (don’t worry we won’t tell).

#5 Be house proud
Be proud of your home! Now that you’ve put in the effort to make it as beautiful as it is, keep it that way and let your guests see how proud you are of it.
These entertaining spaces are definitely worth being proud of! If you enjoy living in your home, you’re going to enjoy having people over to enjoy it with you!
Having a dinner party or just having friends over for a coffee is the perfect excuse to spruce up your house and keep it looking fresh all year around!
